November 12th belongs to Singapore and Sweden, as its bowling athletes won first gold medals in IBF Super World Championships 2021 Singles.
Singapore’s Shayna Ng clinched gold in the women’s singles, after beating compatriot Cherie Tan. Tight contest between the two teammates required two-game and a roll-off. Shayna Ng won the first game 234-215, while Cherie Tan took the second 226-206, resulting in a ninth and 10th frame roll-off, which ended with the result 49-27.
Canadian athlete Sarah Klassen and Sofia Rodriguez from Guatemala were awarded with the bronze medals. S. Klassen lost her semi-final to Cherie Tan 193-246, while S. Rodriguez lost tight game to the upcoming Singles champion S. Ng 203-216.
In the Men’s Singles, Swede James Blomgren was the absolute dominator and took the gold medal. After beating Italian Nicola Pongolini in the semi-finals 236-196, he then left no chances to Tomas Kayhko from Finland in a two-game final – 279-214, 247-185. Finn took the win in a single game semi-final against rising Korean bowling star Geun Ji 248-216.
IBF Super World Championships 2021 is held in Dubai, UAE. It is worth mentioning that athletes were competing in quite different conditions. It was the first time when final stages of world bowling championships were held outside, under beutiful night sky of Dubai, as part of World Expo 2020.
